Roads and Mileage

Last Friday I was driving my cousin's Hundai Accent(GLS, 2002, 55,000kms)from Bangalore to cochin. We started arround 4:30 AM from Bangalore and took the route through Mysore, Bandhipur, MudhuMali, Nadukani, Nilamboor, Trichoor, Cochin.

We had good and decent roads with less traffic till we reached Kerala. The drive was smooth and very effortless. We got an average mileage of 17 .5 Kms per litre. We covered 339 Kms in 6 hours which includes lot of small stops for spotting animals, photos and endless no of coffee/tea. This stretch we had driven without AC completely.

Once we reached Kerala the drive become very slow. From Nilamboor to Trichoor we almost took 5 hours including a lunch break. This distance might be 120 Kms? By the time we reached Cochin it was 7 PM. The mileage we got 220 Kms was 9 km per litre of petrol and took 7 -8 hours. In the second section we had driven with AC for the 75% of distance. The route from Nilamboor to Cochin was Nilmboor-Pertumthallmanni-Pattambi-Trichoor-Cochin.

Good road means less petrol for driving. So the money invested in Road can be easily be returned from earnings from petrol. So increase road tax or toll and build better highways!!!

Advice :

1) If you planning to drive to Trichoor or further south of Kerala from Bangalore don't take this unless you plan to take halt or very relaxed!!!

2) Very less good options for food between Mysore and Nilamboor. There is a CCD near Gundalpet.
