Roads and Mileage
We had good and decent roads with less traffic till we reached Kerala. The drive was smooth and very effortless. We got an average mileage of 17 .5 Kms per litre. We covered 339 Kms in 6 hours which includes lot of small stops for spotting animals, photos and endless no of coffee/tea. This stretch we had driven without AC completely.
Once we reached Kerala the drive become very slow. From Nilamboor to Trichoor we almost took 5 hours including a lunch break. This distance might be 120 Kms? By the time we reached Cochin it was 7 PM. The mileage we got 220 Kms was 9 km per litre of petrol and took 7 -8 hours. In the second section we had driven with AC for the 75% of distance. The route from Nilamboor to Cochin was Nilmboor-Pertumthallmanni-Pattambi-Trichoor-Cochin.
Good road means less petrol for driving. So the money invested in Road can be easily be returned from earnings from petrol. So increase road tax or toll and build better highways!!!
Advice :
1) If you planning to drive to Trichoor or further south of Kerala from Bangalore don't take this unless you plan to take halt or very relaxed!!!
2) Very less good options for food between Mysore and Nilamboor. There is a CCD near Gundalpet.

Trusted Filtering.
This reminds me paper I had written couple of years back on performance based filtering.
Couple of weeks back a friend and me were discussing about product / service reviews in various sites and blogs. Are they not commercially motivated?
Another incident came to my mind is when I was working a lab level for a product support. My products used to run on IIS web server and it wasn't working fine a specific customer case. Customer googled and got some suggestions to change IIS configuration. IIS administrator just went and made the changes suggested by the site. It didn't solve the problem and look it didn't created also a new problem. Me and my mentor had discussion about it during the time about people blindly trusting the blogs and web.
How to trust a website or content in a website? How do I know that it is not commercially not motivated? The article is opening a lot of questions!!
Any way the news papers content I don't trust any more. Read this artile about TOI

Go Kiss the World.
I haven't written or read any things for last 20 days or so. Little busy with life. In the work also I am finding something interesting to keep me motivated. Trying to make things better through the system.
Thursday (Aug 7th) evening I picked up a copy of the book from the Sapana books house Indiranagar. I went to buy another book and saw this one on the shelf. I was just glancing through the pages. The random page I opened was where he talks about the mistake in his career to join the Bell/Lucent. I just felt connected with book at that moment. I had a copy of this book with me when I moved to the billing counter later.
After the dinner I sat with book in my reading chair. It was almost 1 AM midnight when I finished the last page. It was highly inspirational and writing style also will keep you reading till you finish it. Friday morning on the way to office I shared the book with my cousin.
I am undergoing a early mid life crisis and searching in the dark. I was feeling like running away from life and career as it doesn't motivates me any more. I felt some there was some messages for me.
I also found the mp3 of his interaction IIMB students.

Bangalore Route 335 Again
As usual I took the 335 BMTC Volvo service to office. It was very crowded when I boarded at the HAL. It was very difficult to stand and it was not at all a pleasant experience.
The bus was just taking off from the Wind Tunnel road signal. A sudden break!! Half the people standing fall. The guy who was standing behind was on my back. Oops!!! A Silver WagonR (KA 03 MC 1543) car jumped from left lane to in front of bus and zoomed. The brake was to avoid an accident with the car.
The next signal bus driver caught the car driver. He went out of the bus and started shouting at the car driver. The car driver very a stylish dressed guy with a Bluetooth ear phone also came out and started fighting with bus driver. The fight went till signal turns green.
My back is still paining!!

Advt as News
The job of the media is tell you that you that you suck, because you don't live best apt in town, You don't drive the latest car, You don't fly often or vacation often!!!.
News and movies are all about creating a market and communicate that you such because you don't buy things.
Most of the media today belongs to political parties or Business houses. Is there any difference between both ? Both has clear agendas. Not hidden any more.

The Story of Stuff

I saw this The Story of Stuff today. Very thought provoking. If you have 20 mins you should watch it.
Does human race in this planet is designed to sustain for ever. No. I think what we facing today is the evolution cycle for our extinction. We cannot escape from it. But we can delay it? But how much?
I am paid how to make you to use the phone more and talk more. Let me think about it.

the-3-mistakes-of-my-life
It is more than a story. It draws the recent events in Ahmadabad embedded in a beautiful story of dream dare and love. It is a great attempt. Cricket is Religion or Religion is Politics in India? I only felt bored while reading the last and long fight to save the life of Ali. It should have been presented better!!
Some times it becomes a documentary while explaining the Australian sports. But over all I just liked it. It might not be classic but It is good to read it.
Note: I read in the Authors post hat half a million copies of book sold in a month. !!!

Cast System in Software Development.
Last week two fresh engineers from college joined our group. Our group is a product team 25 people (2 sub teams Dev team and System Validation Team). All the members joined for quick stand up meeting to introduce the new guys to the team.
It was interesting. The Dev team members introduced themselves as they are an elite group. It was obvious from the expression and language and more obvious if the engineer is less experienced. While most of the testing team members avoided saying their team.
I always felt that there is a cast system existing in the industry based on the Job category.
The following is order from top.
1) Programmer / Developer (In these two groups. Maintenance engineer is belonging lower group than Dev)
2) Testing
3) SCM / Release and Build Management
4) Tech Writing
5) Product Support
Might be the product management folks and sales folks think Dev is low cast job? Does the higher cast produce more value than the lower one?

Pachamarathanalil
The movie has a slow start and gets into a beautiful suspense. But it looses track on the way and ends some where else. I didn't go the movie to watch a crime thriller. But it ends out like one.
Srinivasan (The new super star in mallu movie) has the camera focus most of time. They didn't give any Justice to Padmapriya who plays the role of the mother of the missing child. Ending was more like a detective movie just to explain a complex plot. I didn't go and watch the movie for that.
The movie could have put lot of questions about missing children, victims of the violent struggles, feelings of convicts (or non convicts) for the family. It didn't do anything. You just walk out the theatre and forget it.
The director should see the movie Kannathil Muthamittal and see how beautifully a similar theme is done.
Also this movie is having a super star syndrome for Srinivasan's character. That makes the movie more bad.
It reminded me about the Missing Madline incident was on media when I was in Lisbon couple of months back.
Tingya
The movie is visualizing the experience of a small family Marathi Village in "Present India". I felt completely disengaged with the movie. I should have been more engaged with the movie many years back. Might be the current experiences of life is giving me a different view to incidents in the movie.
One of my friends at work was talking to me some time back. His distant relative is suffering from cancer and the doctor is suggesting an expensive and a painful treatment. But doctor is not sure the patient will survive even if the treatment is done. This puts the kids in trouble. To go for an expensive and painful treatment for a dying patient(ROI)? I just thought about it while watching the movie.
There is this question of survive or suicide. You might have to leave the valuable stuff to survive. There is no value for anything you possess unless it is providing you return. For surrviing you sell the liabalites to get more asset. Else you will not survive. It is cruel, but it is fact. Or the nature will kill you.
There was a discussion about the farmer suicides after the movie screening. My friend Shibu who came with me for the screening had other commitments and was already late for it. So we didn't wait for the discussion.
Looking for the next screening.

The Paradox of choices.
Today I came across this google video. It is best way to explain the problem I am facing.
I am planning to buy a new dinning table. The options I have to make is actually making me to differ buying the dining table.
I always prefer other agents to make choices. While choosing the spouse I left to parents. I always felt bad about the choices I made and I made. Whether it is about the investments decisions, carrear or what ever else.. ..
I was with my cousin last month hunting for a house on rent. We had seen at least 25 plus houses. Is he satisfied with choice he made?
Last week I was attending the iCMG EA conference in IISC Bangalore. The CTO of KPIT cummins was comparing yahoo and google. Google don't have much options in home page and hide the complexity for me. I don't have to make much choice.
Might be Linux/Unix is powerful but the options I have to make is too much. Microsoft makes the decision for me on windows.

Sarkar Raj and Nina's Heavenly Delights.
Sarkar Raj. Look like the AAA comes as a package now. Like many Ramgopal Varma's films, you can find similarities in characters and story with famous people, Incidents etc. But it is a movie you just watch and forget about it. Nothing more or Nothing less. A very common plot but on the background of Mumbai's powerful family. Business, Corruption, Cheating, Suspense.
The second was Nina's Heavenly delights. Another NRI movie and has some awards or screenings in some international festivals. It is trying to capture the family vs personal conflict Indian origin youth facing in USA/UK. The same plots we had seen other movies too. We had seen people wanted to play football or want to marry against parents wishes etc. Now it is relationship or love for another girl, want to dance or...... Yes you can see it and forget it.
I also watched Pretty Women and Deja Vu. One is a classic fairy tale remake and another science fiction for crime investigation.
Note: Look like Reliance is investing in Mallu Movies. A good move as most commercially successful Mallu movies are remade to other languages. So it is good lab to test a movie before you invest producing in Hindi or Tamil where the cost of production is very high.
I also watched
Freemium
Giving free alone doesn't bring customers to you. Free doesn't mean that I will only get poor service. Internet is creating a long tail of lot Freemium products and service. It brought down the entry barrier low and low!!!! You have a rush of free services. So you just cannot survive alone by giving free. That is why Google made a real difference.

Cast vs Religion
Does Cast based politics or Religion based politics is what India needed? BJP, Muslim league are the groups advocating for the Religion based. While BSP, Left, DMK and many others banking on cast groups. Some of these cast group is very state specific as they use language also another criteria to divide. Congress in neither here or nor there. It is a trap that congress is currently in and they need to find a way to get out of it.
In additional Left in Kerala needs to win the Muslim votes. So they want to portray Muslims as backward and bring them to their side of politics from Muslim league umbrella. For this reservations and anti US stands are the left strategies...
The only thing CPIM in Kerala can proudly says is the land reforms bill and the text book proves better living conditions in Kerala like long life expectancy and high education level are just because of the land reforms. Is it true?. The land reforms never helped the real agriculture labours to own the land. In Central Travancore(Pathnamthitta, Aleppey, Kottayam, Ernakulam) the land owners are Syrian Christians(Higher cast Christians in catholics, Orthodox, Protestants) and Nair community. I am not sure how the land reforms changed the equations much. But that is only thing CPIM can say something proudly in their 60 plus year history in Kerala. Buy quoting a speech Gowri Amma they are trying to hide political message. It is as bad as any debates in Kirali TV by John Britas on pretext of using a neutral stand.
As I said before the books advocates a cast based political revolution or segregation. It portrays a cast based exploitation exist in Kerala across religions( not in Muslims). It says one should identify using his cast than the religious one. The text book is very effective in communicating it. I think party which is going affected by it most is BJP rather than Christians. I am not sure why they are silent on this issue.
Also it gives a feeling that India got freedom by just one or two violent fights here and there. It sidelines Gandhi and his non-cooperation movement which made the freedom movement as a mass movement. In between it also put very anti capitalist stand by mentioning Ambani as the richest man in the world.
It is very obvious that the books propagates the political ideology of the Left parties. Whether it is capitalism or socialism, history shows the state sponsored education system always teaches the ideas what the state wanted to here. But we can also see in history that always a few in the the next generation breaks all these boundaries and find new information and challenges this seeded information and they change the world. So some times is it good to be dropped out from school too.

The Alchemist
It is a very inspiring book and a true Alchemist which can change people's life. I think I am not carried away by it so much but still it left big impact on me. I needs another reading.
It has lot of the christian myths in it like the shepherds are first one to see the King....
The idea of suffering is much more that the suffering itself. I always had more pain when I see the nurse approaching me with a syringe. The actual injuction was never painfull. I think I am a comfortable state and afraid loosing my comforts. This is holding me back pursue my dreams. But do I have a dream?

തുളസിദാസ് - ദിലീപ് മലയാള സിനിമയും
It is good that Thulasidas is not getting an opportunity to make another bad movie. He had created enough garbage in last the couple of years. Vinayan has created couple of good movies and most them he created with out the help of any coccus. He put Kalabhavan Mani to the main stream. It was great stuff he hid. I think this time he got in the bad books of a wrong person. Producers union says that he is the next one to eliminated. Does unionism can protect jobs where creativity is the core needed to execute a job?
Favouritism and coccus in mallu movie industry is a very visible one. There was Trivandrum lobby before and now the Cochin one. Thilakan was sidelined from mallu movie now. Is it something to do with his issues in Amma?

Do you want to Reset password of RDO of Kerala?
This is developed by cdit. A real WTF and really sucks
1) You can just reset the password of all RDO and System Admin for this application. Just one click.
2) Look at the disclaimer given in the site. Is it cool? It shows how our govt usually works and no one owns anything. Is the Dept. of Registration should own it? or some one else?
3) Look at the article by cdit director on open source. And they develop this 3rd grade apps for Govt using Microsoft technologies. Guys it is all for you. I can use any thing I like. It is time for the director to create some good applications rather than writing stories. We are paying you for good applications not for stories.

Parinamam (പരിണാമം)

The book is still lying on my table. When I look at it I increases my appetite like the red wine in my dinner table.
I wanted to read it from college. Some how it got missed and missed. By finally I read it, It tastes so beautiful. It was worth the wait.
A Political Satire, Detective Novel( esp the writing style has detective style) or what else. I don't care where it belongs. I just enjoyed it. I want to read it again.

Juno and More....
Then I came across this report on the state of world mothers. It is so sad to read it. It says that the discrimination by parents providing health care girl kids in India. Find the extract from the report. The main reason for the gender gaps in India and China is inequity of health care for female and male children. Son preference is deeply rooted in Indian and Chinese traditional culture, which results in discrimination against girls in nutrition as well as in preventive and curative health care. Girls in India are often brought to health facilities in more advanced states of illness than boys, and taken to less qualified doctors when ill. In both countries, less money is spent on girls’ health compared to boys. As a result, girls are less likely to receive the medicines and treatments they need. In India’s Punjab state, results of one study showed that expenditure on health care during the first two years of life was 2.3 times greater for sons than for daughters. I thought once the girl kid is born people will not show discrimination.
I saw the movie Juno couple of days back. The teenage pregnancy movie in US. The girls walks to the hospital for abortion. She walks back and deciding not to kill the baby. It is was great visual.
Happy Mothers day for all!!!

Scripted or Unscripted Drama
Any way IPL unscripted drama is progressing pretty well
1) Sree getting slapped by Bhaji and the crying scenes
2) Mallaya firing Chaaru and lashing against Dravid. ( Mallaya's cricket team is better than his F1 team. No firing there or afraid of white skin? )
3) KKR giving pink slips to the bench strength.
Waiting for more fun !!!!

Carnation Revolution Celebration

Morning I waked up from loud music from Restauradores square where my hotel is situated. Restauradores was the ending point of the Marathon or running race. After a quick break fast we joined the road to see the marathon. There were lot of ladies selling Red Carnation flowers and some one is selling stickers too. One old lady put stickers in our dress and we had shell out 2 Euros for the same.
We were roaming round the city till evening and evening when we reached Rossio square by 6 pm there was huge procession of PCP ( Portugal Communist Party). There were lots of people with bands, music, dancing, shouting slogans, posters, fancy dress ... It was a festive time (or protest time?). Me and my wife wait in the mid of the road and watching it.
We too got Carnation flower and was so tired when we reached the hotel where I am writing this now.

With the crusaders.
Read the article Nadangum Olympic Prathinja .
Even if any one like or not, China is another crusader in Tibet and like US in Afghan or Iraq. There is no difference between two.
I hate you CP(I)M and friends. Why do you live paradox? Why can't you be with crucified than justifying a crucifier.
We hate you and your Govt and given a chance you will also be a crucifier. Really I hate you.

Martin Luther King, A dream deferred?
I had opportunities to visit and work US corporations in East Coast and Bay Area. The no. of African Americans working in these companies can be easily countable. I think you find more Inidans or Asians.
Expat Indians in America are nothing very different. Should see Mississippi Masala by Meera Nair. I think 1991 movie still holds value and worth watching it again.

Ultimate Gift
One of the Gift is Dream and the book mentions about the last day Walt Disney. He is dreaming even hours before he died. I always felt Akkoor my dear friend was another person has great dreams.
I realized my current problem. I don't have any dreams. I was always flowing in the water or I lost it some where. My wife always said I never had wishes even and I am living for others.
Wishes are not dreams. I need to dream. How do I do one?

A Letter to My God
Dear God
Today is Sunday and I went to church in the morning for the Sunday mass. Father do you know, Ever since this priest became my parish vicar 3 years back my Sundays are really bad. There is no you in the prayers. They are just some functions. They are using you to spread hatred, construct buildings, makes new rules and regulations and bad words. Why Father your church is becoming like this? For the last 3 years every day I was expecting the day he gets transferred after the 3 year service. So I never complained about it for last years and expected a better day. Today he dropped the bomb at the end of the mass that his due transfer is postponed for another year.
I am not involved in church politics and committee's. I want my Sunday's to be spend with you and every prayers and speeches to energies me to make a better person. There is saying in Malayalam that "Mulla Poombadi Ettu Kiddakum Kallinum undu oru saurbhyam". I am also becoming a worse person after attending the service by this priest. Since born and brought in Malankara Orthodox church I don't want to leave this church. But these types priest and decisions make me more and more away from it. But why your church is forcing me take alternatives?
God, do you know on the Passion Week Thursday evening prayer and retreat I attended the another church and retreat. There was this Mr prakash lead the retreat and it took me different level of realization. It fed me lot +ve thoughts and motivates me to be better person. On the contrary on Good Friday on my own church there was quiz competition and made the full Good Friday a Joke.
You told me to forgive others. Give me strength to forgive this priest the who makes my every Sunday miserable and bishop who bends the rules for his favorites. Also forgive me if the letter is bad. I know you will do it. But never the priest or bishops.
My Lord and My God. I love you and give strength to face it for another year!!
Love
Tiju Titus John

Akkara Akkara Akkara
The script, visualization techniques, acting, music gives you a fresh feeling. Yesterday I watched the movie College Kumaran. That was a sucking. This was coooool and I could contrast it with yesterday's movie pretty fast. The fresh script, the new background, satire and ammature approach all made these series of short movies just great.
Towards later it got little boring and repetitive. It is good that on the 11th episode, the camera was taken out of Thekkumuttil hose. While watching the movies I felt like reading "Bobanum Moliyum" by Toms. Don't know why? But that is what I felt while watching it.
Since we mallus don't have any industry or jobs at our godzone country, we export our best human resource. We will make export quality human resource for other nations teaching them English, IT and Nursing. It is good to see expat mallu's still give back to its art forms the like this. Great work guys. Have more but not very frequent.
On the episode 10 camera is outside and you can hear a set of dialogue between Rincy and Greggory about painting the house. It is still fresh in my mind!!!

Delhi Visit and a Metro Travel
I had visited Delhi with my family on 25th and 26th of March. The short visit was to attend a visa interview for the Portugal Visa.
This is my feelings about Delhi after visiting it.
1) You cannot survive without speaking Hindi. The two days I spend there put my Hindi abilities into good test. My wife finally admitted that I knew Hindi. Bangalore is more cosmopolitan. Here you can survive with English, Hindi, Tamil and of course Kannada.
2) Delhi's infrastructure is amazing. Wide Roads and again Wide Roads. Being from Bangalore I was jealous with the wide roads of Delhi. I felt like relocating to Delhi except for the hot climate (it was very hot for me even in end of March) and distance from home town. My cousin told that these infrastructure improvements happened in 7-8 years. It is just great.
3) Delhi has more private vehicles and big sedans. You don't see many rickhs, bikes and small hutch backs likes Zens, Wagonar's and Santros. Small vehicles are not making chutney out of you!!!
4) Public transport is pathetic. The Buses look horrible. This might get changed soon with Metro covering new areas. You could see lot of metro constructions going everywhere nook and corner.
5) I traveled in Metro from Rajeev Chowk to Indiraprastha and back. When I was finally getting down Rajeev chowk the crowd was so bad that I had a great difficulty in getting out train. They were like hardly 20 people to get out ad 20 people to get in. The people outside are crowding at the door and had a very difficult time in getting out. Indians can't wait in queue and create a mess out of nothing. I had traveled in much more crowded metros all over the world. But this was most bad experience I had.
6) Heard of Connaught Place a lot before. But it is not up to the Bangalore's church street, Brigade road and MG road.
7) Delhi is city of Tombs. You can see Tombs of Muslim rulers, their wife's and national leaders on the banks of Yamuna. Visited Rajghat and prayed there. It was great feeling.
8) Just saw Parliament, supreme court, Rastrapathi bahvan, India gate from car while traveling through all the Marg's and all the Bhavan's. Being used to the circles and roads in Bangalore the Margs was little amusing.
9) Delhi you don't feel like youth city. You get a feeling of city of rich and powerful. Bangalore is more Gen "X" city.
Being from Bangalore I am just jealous of the Delhi Infrastructure. The roads and speed at metro construction proceeds is too amazing. Here everything is at snails pace!

Invasion vs Liberation.
The CPIM articles will be always having some justification for interference in Nepal and non interference in Myanmar or Tibet. Since Muslim votes are crucial for victories in Kerala (With recent changes Malapuram has more seats) the old foe America is biggest enemy of CPIM. All the articles have repeated sentences globalization depoliticisation. They find CIA interference in the strike by people for land in the Quilon district. Is CIA so jobless?
During the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 I was so shocked when Late EMS justified of the Chinese Govt who forcefully cracked it down. I was a 10th STD student. This was first incident in my life when I left felt political leaders are more hypocrite. They don't do what they preach. The irony of becoming the crucifier from the crucified is true for any movement. Anand in his book “The Fourth Nail” talks about it. Refer the links for Malayalam and English Translation. I will write a review about it later. Find the Hindu Review about the book.
Personally I hate all kinds on invasion. But from the current media it is difficult to find out which is invasion and which is liberation? Find this article on economist on Tibet. Is it biased or not? I am leaving it you.
History shows today's invasion is tomorrow's liberation and today's liberation is tomorrow's invasion. The invasion of India in Kashmir or Invasion of China and Pakistan in the Kashmir. The liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan?? Or Invasion of India to split Pakistan.
But I felt like vomiting when India sold the Myanmar freedom fight for little bit Petrol. I hate Left parties they are more hypocrite.

Unscriptted Drama
Might be the reality TV shows are becoming more and more popular because they are also unscripted.
We had seen in cricket how the betting mafia had made the cricket matches as scripted drama. So how many of these shows are really unscripted?
So here is ultimate stuff. The unscripted news.
http://www.rationalistinternational.net/article/2008/20080310/en_1.html
Always I felt that lot of news in the news papers and TV very well scripted dramas. There are sure lot of Media Syndicates creating news !!!!
Deadlocked Bangalore. Execute "kill -9"?
Usual walk to the bus stop was so difficult, as the recent rains made the road into a dirt pond. Dirty water from smelling garbage dumped in the corner of the road is over flowing to the road. Splash!! Oops that is a pretty new 4 wheeler. I just escaped from skin disease by an inch. The walk to the bus stop was better than an aerobics exercises to avoid splashing waters from moving vehicles and dirt filled potholes.
Oops my 335 bus is already at stop. Ran with my heavy backpack (When are TV networks and research will be done techies heavy backpacks??) to catch the bus. The journey till the Victoria road was smooth. It was a huge block in the Victoria road. 10 mins wait and the Bus is at the same place. Bus is not moving an inch. One side of the road is dug up for some construction. Since it is only 200 meters to my destination I got down and started to walk. It was impossible to walk. No footpaths and vehicle’s are there in every inch of the road. Water gets splashed when ever some vehicle moves. Only one vehicle can move in that road due to construction. A Maruthi Zen wanted to enter a building on the roadside. Heck he blocked all the traffic as the security of building not allowing him to enter. Security wants to rearrange the current vehicles before allowing this guy to enter. HONKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK... from behind. But Zen drives don't care!!!
I lost all my energy and positive feeling when I reached Office. Just wanted to run away from here. How can I do some creative work when week starting itself is so sucking!!! I hate my Bangalore. I will start to office tomorrow early and pull out my car. Sure I splash water at others and park in the roadside.
Times of India is running campaign "Unlock Bangalore". There was a photo cars parked in MG road and with a comment "Roads are for to drive the vehicles. Not to park." The campaign also advocates of using public transport. Why do I care?
If a construction is happening in a road Bangalore has is distinction of not allowing public mass transport on that road. Only private cars, bikes, taxis and autos will be alloweded. In MG Road from Trinity circle to Mayo Hall currently buses are not allowed. If a person wanted to come to MG road by bus from Airport road he need walk a KM at least!!
You cannot unlock Bangalore. You can only do a "kill -9"

Heros from Babu Raj
But today I want to write about 3 Civil Service Officers who had impressed me during college days. These 3 are chosen because they were ex-students of SB College and came to college and given speeches to students during my college time. They were heroes to me once upon a time. Still some are heroes while others got displaced.
The first is Raju Narayana Swamy. His father Iyyer Sir taught me Maths in college. Raju got his Civil Service First rank soon after I joined the college. A big function was conducted in the college for him. He was always in the news for not bending for politicians, relatives and friends. He was one of the cats who were sent to Munnar for land recovery operation last year. He was a too good cat and stood for the people and law which irritated the chief minister itself who send the cat. The cat got transferred soon. But during the short stay there one minister lost his post and CM got screwed for land recovery drama of taking back land from TATA.
The next is Tomin J Tachenkkerry. He was Arts Club secretary when he was in college. While we were in college he was freaking out in Iddukki and Alleppy with drug hunt etc. After couple of years we see him as a musician with his Christian devotional song which was an instant hit. Then I saw him once in Singapore. I was in Business Trip in Singapore. On a Sunday he was there at Orthodox Church Singapore giving a speech. He had given a cool speech. Don't even remember anything now. He is the most controversial now and even suspended from Job for the pirated CD case.
Third was C.V. Ananda Bose. He was invited to college when he got some international award for Nirmithi Kendra work. At college old prof ‘s in speeches were remembering about how an arrest was avoided during emergency. Don’t remember the details. The last I heard he was also ran into corruption cases. Don't know where he is now. Did a Google and found some articles like this.
http://www.aees.gov.in/welcome_chairman.html and http://www.kerala.gov.in/nss.htm
As usual these Govt. sites don't have any dates on it.
Some of them are fallen. Some of them still hold to the old values. But even if in-efficient I still dream to be a Civil Service Officer, at least when I see mammooty in King or Suresh Gopi in commissioner.
PS: Last Saturday (15- March-2008) Manorama had summary of this economist article and used the Ernakulam Collector's quote to given nasty comment on Panchayat Raj !!!

This is hosted in US using the Microsoft technolgies such as IIS and ASP. NET.
Last week the same newspaper carried an article of KSEB ( Kerala State Electricity Board) is using Open Source software. Chief minister VS who innaugrated the software and told in the meeting that he was considered anti devlopment he fought against using Microsoft. I thing Pinarayi want to be pro devlopment and innaugrating the websites with Microsoft technologies.
I am not belonging to any syndicate. Just a techie who likes Open Source
Life and Death of Bangalore Techie
He graduates. It was the time he heard of new course called MCA. A course designed for IT jobs. He write couple of entrances and he lands up decent institute for MCA. There he found a new world. People are behind campus interviews, jobs, money, and corporate world. There are new heroes. His old idols don't have a chance to survive here. He embraces the new ones.
There he comes in contacts how the cast based society still exist in India. This was his first bad exposure to it. How teachers are cast biased........ Cast clans lead by teachers!! He hated it. But he compromised with it for an IT Job in MNC or for a 4 digit month salary which was highly attractive then.
3 years he wasted his life in college and but ultimately he landed up in Bangalore. He started working for a start up software service company. He heard new jargon's and new mantra of management. He was an obedient sheep. He worked of code and reworked on the code. He created documents for CMM levels and reworked on the documents. He leared how cheat on time sheets. He sat through appraisals, went on site trips, and attended late night client meetings and what else. He did this all days and night, holidays and Sundays... He thought it was challanging.
One fine morning his mother call up and tell that she find a girl for him to marry. He had bored most of restaurants in Bangalore and cooking skills are not even decent also. His was also very lone in the busy city. Most of his friends either had left the country or busy with work. Nothing else to do he decides to marry her thinking it makes life better. But soon he realizes some one to share his life comes with more constraints. He looses his freedom. He has responsibilities. And in couple of year’s time his family grows. Kids arrive.
He changes jobs for work life balance, money, and roles. He learns new jargon's, new domains and new problems. He climbed some ladders and fall down on some other ladders. There were places where there are no ladders also!!!. But he realizes the big organizations are inefficient and inefficient and they survive because others are more inefficient. Now he is grown up enough to see the bias, corruptions, inefficiencies, politics, and racial abuse in organizations across the world. He had compromised with it already... and he is also becoming one of it.
Suddenly he realizes that it is 10 years passed since he started working. Now He has a family to support. He still lives in the middle class rented apartment of 650 sq feet. He wanted to buy a home. He realizes that for an apartment 20 kms Bangalore MG Road by a corrupted builder, he have to pay half of his income for next 20 years. He also felt that Bangalore had grown too much. There is traffic everywhere and no infrastructure improvements. He started worrying about his daily life. His daily life is so difficult he cannot think of any thing else. He wakes up in the morning scared of basic things of reaching office on time. His health gets bad. He lost his creativity. He is afraid of life. He lost his energy to innovate!!
Without a creative mind and innovation, He realizes the he is facing a slow death. He changes projects and change jobs. Nothing makes a difference. He is loosing his life.... Death is coming towards him !!

Inaugurating Websites
In India we see lot of news article which inaugurates websites. Do websites need to be inaugurated. In India we generally have lot of inauguration and nothing happens after that. These are meetings and functions where every one get some media attention.
Let us not inaugurate sites. Try make the sites popular and popular.
This state meeting of CPIM is going to American bashing. And this site is hosted in US. What a paradox!!!!
To Meet the Doc or Not
This doc is little different from docs normally find in Bangalore. Myself and Wife had visited him couple times before. I like him because he doesn't prescribe lot medicine. He usual advice will be rest and have tender coconut and slight medicines. Once he asked me drink coke when I had some stomach issues. That was time there were controversies that soft drinks contains poisons and other bad minerals in India. Might be he thought it will kill the worms in my stomach.
As usual we had to wait atleast an hour to see the doc. It was not because there were lot of patients but the doctor takes time during the appointments. He always make patient lies down in the bed and do some usual checks. These things are pretty unusual in Bangalore as most docs checks patients in parallel as much as possible as Time is Money.
I couldn’t control the smile when he prescribed the treatment. Thought why did I came there. Could have easily predicted it.
Driving Kottyam to Bangalore
While coming back we decide to try another route. We started Dec 29th 8 AM from Kottayam. After pushing through heavy traffic we reached Trichoor by 11 AM. Then we took deviation to shornoor than the usual Palghat road. The road was good and less traffic. My wife decided to take the driver seat. She is a cool driver. But easily get tensed can create traffic blocks. She was driving pretty cool and when we reached Vadakamcheery a lorry started honking from behind. She got scared and vehicle got stopped. She created decent block before she was moved out of the driving seat. I took the driving seat again. From Shornoor it was Pattambi and then perumthalmanna to Nilamboor.
On the way we stopped at the roadside had lunch which we packed from home. It was really fun !!
We went to our cousins home in Karulai in Nilamboor and decided to stay over night there. We took bath in the river near by and walked through the rubber farms... We were expecting more variety agriculture. Look like rubber making deep roots there also.
Next day morning we started from Nilamboor 8 am. We took the Nadukani, Guddallor , madumali, Bandipur Gudelpet, Mysore and Bangalore.
On the Nadukani Road we were exited with the forest route and stopped and stopped all the curves. Both of us were traveling this route first time. We were very sad we couldn't spot any animals. Almost at the end of Madumali forest we spotted an elephant. We saw tourist info centre and stopped and with in seconds there is a monkey on my windshield.
We spotted couple of dears in Bandipur. It was 1: 30 Pm we reached Mysore Ring Road.
